A School of Necromancy Wizard commission for @ActualSailorCat on Twitter! I had an awful lot of fun working on this. She has 2 sets of skelly arms growing out of her back, though for the purposes of this commission she ended up with just the one pair visible!
Lou origin story! This was classwork, and also kind of a mixed media experiment. It’s MOSTLY traditional inks and wet charcoal, with the flat gray tones added in digitally. The idea was to show two different timelines, separated by visual style or something, I GUESS
It’s…not very good (especially cringy dialogue, ow), but I got an A on it and that’s what matters. And dialogue aside I still think it’s quite pretty

I was falling back asleep after one of my wake ups (I don’t really tend to sleep in solid chunks these days, I’m usually down for about three hours before I suddenly wake up), and in that space between dream and awake I stood in a market. I could only see the wooden stall in front of me, some sort of wooden fruit stand selling things that weren’t apples. They were round and red and shiny, lined up in neat rows. They were not apples. I never saw the crowd and sellers, but my brain filled in their absence with the calm certainty that they were around somewhere. I was in a market. There had to be people in a market.
And then there was. To my right, a tall man with a shopping bag timidly reached for the fruit. Looking back on it, his face was so goofy. His head was like a smooth white sack with eyes drawn on in marker and there was something wrong with his neck. I couldn’t quite see what that was but I knew it wasn’t a standard issue neck.
His eyes didn’t move but I could tell when he noticed me. And instinctively I was like.
Fuck This.
I woke up so afraid. I didn’t fall back asleep until 10 in the morning. Full on wimptimes. Stuffed animal and lights on and everything.
“Nightmares” are so common that they don’t really scare me anymore but this dude has been stuck in my head for the past three days. In that time I’ve seen what might have been him one other time, again when I was falling asleep (I kind of knew he wasn’t going to do anything so I wasn’t scared that time, more confused like “you’re back?”). So I had to draw him. I’m not sure what his deal is but something about him feels ghostly. Or at least fairly corpsey. He might be a psychopomp or a witch’s familiar, or a dude who just really needs to get groceries. He seems chill. I’m pretty sure his body isn’t technically ‘his’ body though. Stand by for more info as my melatonin gummies continue to fail at doing their job.
